Sonder

Sonder is the realization that everyone lives their own individual unique life, one which you might never be a part of. On a morning train ride you will see many people, all of which are living different lives, going different places but all choosing the same path to get there. This editorial will create the feeling of realization that at the same moment you are living your life, over seven billion people are also living their own unique life. Through the choice of paper to the binding this will reflect the realization that there are many lives that are taking place all at the same time. The editorial is composed of many non-fiction short stories, these stories have no contextual meaning to one another, but through all being experienced by humans are in essence still connected.

Sonder needed to solve two problems: making many contributors' voices navigable, and making its central idea; that everyone around you is living a full life you'll never fully see, feel true physically, not just stated in the text. A color-coded index carried through each contributor's title treatment handles the first; vellum pages that let neighboring stories faintly bleed into each other handle the second, so a reader feels the concept while turning pages instead of just reading about it.
